Fan Comics Rec: I’ve fallen in love with Illeity’s AT comics. Not only are they beautifully composed and colored, they also pay wonderful attention to character complexities and provide credible bits of missing backstory (especially for PB, Marceline, Finn, Ice King/Simon and Flame Princess). The comics work in famous quotes and song lyrics, managing to be gently philosophical while still retaining the humor and playful spirit of the series. I especially like this last aspect because I think it can be really easy to lean too heavily to the serious side when exploring character dynamics and relationships; I’ve seen a lot of really good AT fanworks that nevertheless lose the irreverence that’s present even in the darkest episodes of the show. Illeity also does some sweet Gravity Falls comics that posit Mabel and Dipper’s world as a prequel of sorts to Ooo.
TL;DR version, if you love Adventure Time, do yourself a favor and read some of these comics.
Thanks :)
To paraphrase Camus: “Existence is rebellion.”
The world too tragic and violent? Be decent and struggle to be happy. Fandom brimming with inaccurate characterization and Marceline/ Simon angst-fest? Do your best to portray REAL people and draw Marceline and Simon brimming with love. Annoyed by people freaking out over the lack of Marcy in “The Suitor?” Discuss the needlessness of any on-screen confirmation to make a ship meaningful and promote the episode with excitement.
Create. Laugh. Cry. Rebel :)
I had 3 stitches in my ear today and now my ear is swollen like a balloon
I’m not being racist but if you didnt want your ear to swell up you probably shouldn’t have gotten stitches.
how is that racist
they just said they weren’t being racist do you even listen
Why is no one talking about Adventure Time: Playing with Fire?!
It was a wonderful Ghibli-tier, Disney-tier exodus of young love, mystery and courage.
And for those wondering, yes, it is an excellent female protag story.
It’s probably available in your local comic book shop or bookstore right now.
Don’t miss it!
I’M GOING TO VOMIT I NEED THIS SO BAD
This gifset is a bit misleading. It doesn’t mention the part where he said he came to really appreciate the original series as an adult and has since watched all of the episodes. The writers he worked with are huge Star Trek fans. His philosophy was to try and make the movie accessible to everyone while still acknowledging the die hard fans. Whether he succeeded is a subjective opinion that you all can make on your own, but I think some folks are being unreasonable by judging him for the opinions of his youth. While I was a huge TNG fan as a kid, I also found the original series hard to watch until later in life.
I have seen every single episode and movie of every Star Trek series ever made. I think the reboot was amazing and will bring a lot of new fans to the source material. Movies are supposed to be more spectacle and TV shows usually delve deeper into philosophy. I guess I’m hoping the success of the movies may lead to more television series so we can have the best of both worlds.
